Songs About Jane track listing

"She Will Be Loved" is a song by American pop rock band Maroon 5. It was written by frontman Adam Levine and lead guitarist James Valentine. The song was released on May 8 , 2004, as the third single from Maroon 5's 2002 debut studio album, Songs About Jane. The single peaked at Template:Abbr 5 in the United States and by December 2012 had sold more than 2,722,000 digital downloads.[1] It peaked at No. 4 in the United Kingdom. In Australia, it reached No. 1, a position it held for five non-consecutive weeks. The single is noted for its music video starring Kelly Preston in a mother-daughter love triangle with lead singer Adam Levine.

The song proved as successful as the band's previous hits, "This Love" and "Harder to Breathe", hitting No. 1 on the Mainstream Top 40 and Adult Top 40 charts, but it prompted many alternative radio outlets to remove Maroon 5 from their playlists, on the ground that the band's newer songs were too light for alt-rock audiences. These stations continued to play "Harder to Breathe" and "This Love", but Maroon 5's newer hits were played only on pop and adult contemporary stations. As of June 2014, the song has sold more than 3.5 million copies in the United States.[2]

Music video[]

The music video for "She Will Be Loved" filmed in April 2004. shows a young man (played by singer Adam Levine), who ends up falling in love with his mother (played by Kelly Preston), with his girlfriend (played by Corrine Carrey). The music video was said to be inspired by the Dustin Hoffman film The Graduate, although the story of the relationship between the mother and the young man is treated in a more sympathetic rather than humorous manner. and somewhat bitter about the film.

The plot is simple. It begins with the character of Levine throwing himself into the pool while seeing the reflection of the mother and daughter's eyes in the water. Levine and his girlfriend are then shown swimming and out on the terrace while Levine's mother-in-law tries to attract the attention of her husband. Levine and the mother-in-law have eye contact all the time, which lets you know that from the beginning they were both attracted to each other.

Levine is then seen entering a room, who finds the woman on the floor, drunk and with smeared lipstick; as she takes it, flashbacks of the fight she had with her husband are seen. He tries to help her, trying to clean her lipstick, at the moment that she gives him a kiss, which he reciprocates with a lot of passion. After that meeting, their attraction is stronger, however they pretend that he doesn't exist. Flashbacks continue where Levine begins his relationship with his girlfriend and the mother-in-law looks at them through the window, while Levine and she were still looking at each other back then. All the members of Maroon 5 appear playing in a bar, while Levine dances with his girlfriend, who wears a black dress. She is she changes her mother into believing that Levine hugs and shows affection to his girlfriend when he really only thinks of his mother-in-law. He then continues singing, while imagining his mother-in-law looking at him in a red dress.

Finally, Levine, his girlfriend and his two in-laws, are seen sitting on the terrace. Levine is very affectionate with her girlfriend causing her mother-in-law to become jealous and claim her husband's affection, which does not happen. Then quick flashback images appear about everything she experienced with Levine, causing the woman to start regretting and leaving the place, while being chased by Levine, who catches up with her, hugs her and when they are about to kiss, they both turn seeing that the daughter was watching them.

Like many other videos, many assume it matches the song, but this one opens with the line 'Beauty queen of only 18' and then the video shows how the singer has a crush on a woman in her 40s. Although it can be interpreted as saying that the woman feels like she is 18 years old, young and energetic, and yet she does not receive appreciation from her husband, which makes her unhappy.

Produced by Oil Factory, "she She Will Be Loved" has been directed by Sophie Muller.

Kelly Preston who played the mother of Adam's girlfriend died on July 12, 2020.
